Labubu Insanity Continues

Interested in a Labubu mini fridge? A bit too late now...

I thought Labubu was a flash in the pan, but apparently the fuzzy creature with a mischievous look is still a super hot commodity.

Pop Mart, the Chinese company that sells Labubu, recently released two different mini refrigerators with the character plastered all over the appliance for 5,999 yuan (US$878) each, making only 999 of each design.

There are two designs, only 999 of each made
And... they all sold out instantly, with over 47,000 people pre-registered for the chance to buy one. Over 45,000 people missed out.

Naturally many of these fridges were put on sale on second-hand sale platforms, and the prices shot up to as high as 92,300 yuan, or 15 times the price.

Last year Pop Mart made 14.16 billion yuan from The Monsters (Labubu products), accounting for 38 percent of the company's revenue.

Perhaps there will be more Labubu-themed appliances in the future?

In the meantime the creature's next appearance will be at the World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico. Keep your eyes peeled!

Osaka Sparkled with Glittering Labubus

Osaka shows off Arthur Flashe at the US Open

Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka made great strides in this year's US Open, reaching the semi finals, but was defeated by Amanda Anisimova 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.

Not only did Osaka garner attention for her bling outfits that she had a hand in designing, but also carrying her glittering Labubu-esque dolls, a different one each day clipped to her bag that she brought court side.

Each match she carried a different Labubu
Perhaps what was more upsetting for her than losing in the semi finals was not being able to show off one more Labubu.

"Oh, don't make me cry, man. Oh, my God, the most devastating question," she said with a smile when asked about the Labubu that never was.

"I wanted to make one of myself in last year's outfit, and it was the green one. I would have had the bow, and I'm sick about it," she revealed amidst laughter. "Oh, my God, that's, like, the worst thing. Honestly, I'm fine losing, but don't ask me about this Labubu, man. Yeah, it would have been me."

Osaka worked with artist Kerin Rose Gold to create the tennis-themed five-inch Labubu figurines each carrying a tennis racquet.

There was Billie Jean King as Billie Jean Bling and LaBillieBoo (complete with oversized red eyeglasses), Althea Glitterson (Althea Gibson, one of the first Black tennis players), Andre Swagassi, a play on Andre Agassi with a headband, and Arthur Flashe, an homage to Arthur Ashe.

Billie Jean Bling and Arthur Flashe even have their own Instagram accounts.

During the US Open it took Gold nine to 12 hours to complete one Labubu from scratch, including five hours to 3D print it and then another few hours to glue all the crystals on.

Gold also helped create the sparkling roses in Osaka's hair for her appearances.

If Labubu fans want one, they can order a "Lablingbling from Gold's A-Morir website with prices ranging from US$351 for a mini-sized one, up to US$737 for Labillieboo and Andre Swagassi...

Labubu's Panda-monium Promotes Hong Kong

Yeoh posing with her special edition Labubu with twin pandas

Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh has become the latest Labubu fan after she was gifted a custom one holding two panda cubs that are celebrating their first birthday in Hong Kong.

Yeoh posted pictures of herself on Instagram holding the doll with a mischievous grin with a giant bucket of popcorn, another with British actress and singer Cynthia Erivo, and a shot with fellow Wicked actor Jeff Goldblum.

Jia Jia and De De were born in Hong Kong
"Celebrating Hong Kong born Panda Twins first birthday (and my birthday too) with Labubu in the Hollywood Bowl!!! Thank you @discoverhongkong for sending the greatest companions!" she wrote.

Yeoh is one of several celebrities who received the specially-designed Labubu doll as part of a collaboration between the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and the toy's creator, Hong Kong-born Kasing Lung, to mark the twin pandas' first birthday and promote the city... of course.

The cubs, Jia Jia and De De, who were born on August 15, are the first pandas to be born in Hong Kong and this promotion is a way to prolong panda-monium a bit longer.

Seems like just about everyone has caught onto the Labubu craze, and the government is riding the wave with this special doll.

Will it catch on with Labubu fans? The sales numbers will tell.
