Picture of the Day: Camellia

Lovely camellia in bloom today

Apart from some strange weather on Sunday when it was hailing for a good part of the morning, spring has arrived in Vancouver.

Yes temperatures are still in single digits which is frustrating as we're in April, but the flowers are blooming.

We've had snowdrops, crocuses, and daffodils, and the cherry and plum blossoms are coming out now.

How to tell the difference between plum and cherry blossoms? The petals on plum blossoms are round, whereas cherry blossoms have a small split at the end of each petal.

Another sign of spring? The appearance of camellias. These flowers are considered symbols of romantic love, devotion, and care.

Here's a picture of a camellia I took of today while walking to the bus stop. Enjoy!
